Last week we went to the Tairāwhiti Environment Center to learn about waste management. We learnt about the five R's; Refuse, Replace, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot. We also learnt that it's not what you recycle, but it's what you refuse because if you refuse to buy it then there's nothing to throw away. We learnt how far a rubbish truck goes to dump our rubbish. They also taught us that a dump or landfill is just a big quarry that they put all the rubbish in.
I enjoyed learning about the five R's but it was a bit tricky to understand what they meant.
